Script: Partner conversation
Sabine- Female
Mia- Male partner
Sabine: "I think it’s time we talk about our family planning method. I know I do not want kids and I'm considering Tubal Ligation"
Mia: "I'm not to sure. Are you aware of the risks that this comes with, the operation and all doesn’t seem safe.”
Sabine: “Tubal Ligation is a good way to prevent pregnancy’s from occurring. No backup method of birth control is needed after the surgery.”
Mia: “Are you aware that it is pretty much irreversible? You can change back, but that is with great risk. You have to be 100% sure that this is what we want.”
Sabine: “The method is 99% effective, I am sure I do not want kids now or in the future and I think it is the most effective method of family planning.”
Mia: “You still need to use a condom though to prevent us from catching any STI’s, I still don’t see the point in this procedure. It is quite expensive as well!”
Sabine: “Tubal Ligation is the procedure of having your fallopian tubes tied or cut. This means, we will not fall pregnant and get any unwanted or unexpected pregnancy’s. I have spoken to my doctor and it is safe for me to undergo this operation.”
Mia: “I’m still not sure about this whole method. It feels to me like you are not 100% into it. Why don’t we consider trying a different method as I’m not to sure about this?”
Sabine: “I feel like this is the best way for us. You do not need to be concerned as this operation is on me. It is 99% effective, and I think why not give it a go?”
Mia: “I think we should go and speak to our doctor about further information.”
Sabine: “What are you unsure about?”
Mia: “Some disadvantages of this procedure include if we go ahead with this procedure and decide to reverse it, as well as very expensive we are at risk of experiencing an ectopic pregnancy. Only 20 to 40 percent of women who reverse tubal ligation, fo on to give birth successfully.”
